The NonLeague Today's "Top 50" series continued today with a look at the best official club websites. Surprisingly (sarcasm alert) the Halesowen Town site failed to make the cut although the coverage of the Great Fire of London and the Viking invasions was highly commended.

Chippenham manager Adie Mings doesn't know what's going on either so far as his winger Aaron Cornwall's move to Halesowen Town is concerned. He told NonLeaguedaily.com: "Aaron is still making up his mind, it's getting pretty drawn out now but we hope to have him signed up by the time pre-season starts on July 3rd". Er, sorry Adie, you haven't heard from Mr Cornwall because, according to stories doing the rounds, he signed his Yeltz contract three weeks ago and is now out choosing soft furnishings with fellow new signing (and flatmate) Jack Allward.

allwoodThis one has been alluded to for some time now but word from Mangotsfield suggests we have signed their left-back Jack Allward. I'm not sure if this or any other of our transfers (either in or out) will ever be confirmed by the club but I think this sounds pretty definite. Apparently Allward is a quick, attacking full back who can play in midfield as well as defence. This is precisely what he did against us last season, when he played at full back at the Grove and on the left of midfield at their place.

nickamosI'm not sure that this sentence has been typed too much but thank the lord for the Halesowen News! It is currently our only regular source of information as the club's site is refreshed about as often as George Best at a teetotallers convention. Click here to read the News' latest but it appears that Nick Amos and Stuart Pierpoint are Stafford bound whilst Dennis Pearce is on his way to Bromsgrove. Amos and Pierpoint, both with over 100 Yeltz appearances, will be sorely missed but are moving to a higher level of football. I'm not sure what Dennis is thinking going to Bromsgrove.
But - there are new arrivals. Justin Rowe and Nathan Vaughan are mentioned below but it appears we have also acquired Swindon Supermarine's French central defender Cedric Abraham. He is described as: "...a powerful centre half with great ability in the air and also on the floor. Technically he is a very good footballer and will always look to pass the ball out of defence." Mind you that's on the 'Marine website so they're hardly likely to say he's rubbish.

nvMore rumour - still no fact. It appears we may have signed Evesham 'keeper Nathan Vaughan although there has been no confirmation of this as yet. Obviously our site is silent on pretty much everything these days and the Evesham site appears to have been designed by a colour blind GCSE computer studies student so it is obviously not be trusted. Anyway, Nathan has played for us before. Once. We lost 7-0. He's got better since then though.

The Southern League held its annual presentation award in Torquay last week. By all accounts it was a stunning success. League secretary Jason Mills enthused: "It was an exceptional evening and it went like clockwork. Everyone I spoke to said how well the whole weekend, including the annual meeting, had gone. It was a pleasing way to end the season." Just like the playoffs then Jason.

sandvikI include this picture, taken from the official site, not because I want to go on about Sandvik but because the gentleman on the right would, if you added a few pounds and a degree or two or additional luminescence, be a ringer for Ron Atkinson. Or Røn Atkinsøn as he is probably known in Scandanavia.
That troubling likeness aside the Sandvik deal will be good for the club if it helps establish a higher profile in the local community and encourages a few more people through the turnstiles. Not sure how many players there will be left to watch though!

The latest churning of the transfer rumour mill reveals Stafford Rangers might have signed Nick Amos and Stuart Pierpoint. Their forum claims it's a done deal but I can't find anything to confirm it yet (obviously the official site is still a waste of time although I understand it will be updated properly soon). Dennis Pearce, worried at the prospect of players leaving the club, is still threatening to leave so we could soon be without any central defenders at all.

Morell Maison can now add "36th best non-League manager" to his ever expanding CV. That is the latest exciting accolade bestowed upon the club from NonLeague Today. They spelt Mark Osborn's name wrong last week and they have spelt Morell's wrong this week (although our matchday programme spelt it wrong for the entire season last year so it's probably excusable) but other than that it's all very nice.

More bits and pieces of the unconfirmed variety. If you believe everything you read on the internet (which, lets face it, most of us do) Andy Hall has signed for Conference North side Hinckley United. He only featured 8 times for us but he won me and, I think, most other fans over and I'm sure he would have continued in the same vein next season (although anyone who scores against Team Bath has my seal of approval) .

The Yeltz's glamorous liaison with the Spar is over! Halesowen based Sandvik are next season's sponsors  and are helping the club in their attempts to boost their profile in the local community. I hope they get the Sandvik logo to stay on the shirts - the Spar one kept coming off in the wash last season. The sponsorship involves an undisclosed five figure sum (which is lucky really as we have already reportedly spent an undisclosed four figure sum of it - see below).

justin roweUnconfirmed reports suggest that Sutton Coldfield striker Justin Rowe has joined Halesowen for an 'undisclosed four figure sum'. Rowe (or Rowey as the wags at Sutton have imaginatively called him) is twenty-three and scored 21 goals last season with the same amount of assists. He is clearly a promising player but I thought we were economising. Unless the four figure sum in question is eighty seven pounds and fifty eight pence of course.
This transfer gossip has reminded me - what's happened to Aaron Cornwall?

Some good news! Jay Denny has signed a new deal and will be at Halesowen Town next season. It appears that a move to Stafford Rangers was on the cards but Jay turned it down. Bright Golden Haze would like to think the decision was based on yesterday's impassioned plea for him to stay but in reality it appears to be because Jay is enjoying playing alongside Darren Caskey and believes Morell Maison will attract the quality of player needed in order to remain a force in the league next season.

crownWill the accolades ever stop for Halesowen Town footballers? Hot on the heels of Stuart Pierpoint's achievement (see June 1st entry to relive the stunning news), Mark Osborn has been crowned the 41st best 'keeper outside the football league. In a not particularly glowing eulogy the NonLeague Today paper said he: "...sat on the bench when Wycombe reached the FA Cup semi-finals - now he's the main man at Halesowen." And they spelt his name wrong.

jaydennySome more player news - Dennis Pearce is in talks with Bromsgrove Rovers despite having an offer on the table from Halesowen Town. Ikechi Anya is thought to be a target for Worcester. Davion Hamilton has signed a new deal with the Yeltz whilst Jay Denny is still thinking about his. Come on Jay! Sign the deal and attempt to defend your Bright Golden Haze player of the season award.

With the club doing their best to remind everyone of what life was like before the internet by failing to update their website in any meaningful way whatsoever, we are reduced to rummaging around for bits and pieces of news. Bromsgrove Rovers have reported that they have signed James Dormand which should at least free up some money and, harsh as it sounds, he wasn't that good last season so it probably benefits everyone if he furthers his career away from Halesowen Town.

Is he or isn't he?  Despite telling the world it appears Morell Maison has neglected to tell Aaron Cornwall he is coming to the Yeltz. "I've spoken to Halesowen, but that's as far as it's gone. I've not signed yet." said Cornwall.  Quite have Morell has got the impression that it's a done deal and that Cornwall was even moving house to be nearer the club is anyone's guess but clearly there's more to come on this one.

We know it and now it seems it's time for everyone else to know it too. Morell Maison has moved to shatter the rumours that Halesowen Town are swaggering aristocrats amongst the paupers in the penurious world of non-League football. Click here for the full story.

what have we done to deserve this man?Nothing to do with Halesowen Town and I will never use this site to comment on non-HTFC matters again but I cannot let it pass.
Imagine the scene in the BBC Euro 2008 planning meetings. "Hmmm we need a radio pundit, someone with gravitas, a proven track record in the international game, charismatic yet humble, authoritative yet popular with the listeners." Clearly no-one actually uttered anything along those lines because some dimwit has decided to rub our noses in it by sending Steve McLaren to Euro 2008 as said "expert". The incompetent fool who played the biggest part in England not being at the tournament is now being paid by us to attend and dispense his unique brand of wisdom. I will be fascinated to hear his view as to how teams should line up against Croatia because he didn't have a bloody clue a few months ago.

Another seaside trip has bitten the dust. The annual fiddling with the leagues continues and it appears that Dorchester have been saved from life in the Southern League. Presumably this also means that Bedford will be welcomed back into the fold.

Cornwall is moving to the Midlands! Before you rush for your atlas I only mean that Aaron Cornwall has signed for the Yeltz. Now if we could only sign John "Seaton" Carew and Kevin Poole we could have a team based on seaside "resorts".
Of his new signing Morell Maison said: "Last season we brought in two or three left-sided players and we tried to get them to be the player Aaron is." I'm sure Ikechi Anya is delighted! Click here for the full story.

I've always thought football fans are easily upset and here I am about to prove my point. Nick Pullen, a Birmingham Mail journalist, has made it into my idiot list with his vague allusion that all may not be well at Halesowen Town. Why he thinks this is not clear and for this lack of clarity he must suffer. Whether his journalistic career will ever recover from this damning indictment is debatable but at least he is still behind Ken Turner and the team of which I no longer speak. To judge the extent of my over-reaction click here.

cardsOne transfer rumour doing the rounds involves Aaron Cornwall of Chippenham Town. Apparently the jungle drums are beating in Chippenham and here in Halesowen so there may be something in it. Cornwall was sent off playing against us last season when he had the temerity to become involved in a clash with Darren Caskey. He appears to have disciplinary 'issues' as he served a lengthy ban after being sent off in the pub FA cup last season as well. He also appears to have meticulously maintained facial hair.

Ex Halesowen Town stalwart Steve Pope has made Scott Lycett (aka possible forum contributor 'Lycetto') one of his first signings as manager of Colwyn Bay. Scott looked a decent player in his brief spell at the club and few who witnessed it will forget his gymnastic display after scoring against Mangotsfield. Overall he made 16 appearances at full back for the Yeltz - I'm sure everyone will wish him well.

Eldon Maquemba may still be leaving for sunny Cyprus but it looks like he may also be a target for Halesowen Town's feeder club and Conference National newboys Kettering. For full story and the latest Yeltz news click here.

"24th best defender outside of the Football League 2007/08" may not be something you'd choose to put on your headstone when you depart this cursed earth but it is nonetheless the honour bestowed upon our very own Stuart Pierpoint by NonLeague Today.
Despite them thinking Stuart only joined the club at the start of the season it still has to be seen as something of an achievement and it is nice to see some recognition for Halesowen Town's season (however minor).
