Paul Birch joined the Yeltz at the start of the 98/99 season having enjoyed a long and fruitful career spent predominantly in the West Midlands with Aston Villa and Wolves.
Unlike some ex-pros who drop into the Non-League game, there was no superiority complex where Birch was concerned and the Yeltz were guaranteed 100% commitment in every game.
The fans took to him immediately and he was an instant success on the field too, being the recipient of the Player of the Season award in his first year at the club. It was much deserved and doubtless Paul’s team-mates would agree, particularly Steve Piearce whose prolific tally of 31 goals was in no small part due to the service he received from Paul.
Most readers will probably be aware that Paul, now 45, is currently battling against bone cancer. He is receiving treatment at the Good Hope Hospital but as a result is unable to work. To help Paul out during this difficult period the Paul Birch Trust has been set up.
It would be greatly appreciated if any Yeltz fans who wish to donate and help Paul out at this difficult time could send cheques to:
