The Bright Golden Haze player of the year award is no Oscar, Pulitzer or Nobel prize. It carries no stature, no trophy or prestige. However, the player that wins this less than coveted title will be sponsored by Bright Golden Haze for the following season so it has a tiny bit of reward. Let's have a look at the inaugural winner...
Jay Denny will definitely not look back upon this 'award' as the pinnacle of a career that is undoubtedly destined for greater things, but hopefully it will remind him of how quickly he became seen as an integral member of the Yeltz team in his first season at the club.
Other players may have grabbed the headlines - Dean Brennan, Eldon Maquemba and Darren Caskey immediately spring to mind; but Jay was there from the opening day until the agonies of the play-off final and his industrious and combative performances provided the foundations upon which others could build.
That is not to say that Jay is a journeyman, far from it; indeed he is a vital cog in the Halesowen midfield - contributing the leg-work that partner Darren Caskey can no longer provide, winning vital tackles, rarely wasting a pass and popping up with the odd goal. Jay has said that goalscoring is an area of his game he is looking to build upon and will no doubt be looking to improve on the five he scored last season.
All in all a worthy winner of the first Bright Golden Haze player of the year award and we look forward to seeing Jay continuing to excel in the forthcoming season.
