Miracle man Karl Merk, 54, could be on the verge of an unlikely new career with BGB Premier League strugglers Stourbridge.

Merk lost both arms in a horrific combine harvester accident 6 years ago but, in what is thought to be the world’s first double arm transplant, he has been gifted the possibility of a new start.

Mr Merk said "It was really overwhelming when I saw that I had arms again."

He must now undergo a rigorous course of physiotherapy, electric stimulation and physiotherapy.

Doctors are pleased with his progress as he can already perform basic tasks such as opening doors and switching lights on and off.

However they have warned Mr Merk it will be two years before he has full use of his hands.

In the meantime he has been offered the chance of becoming Stourbridge’s new goalkeeper. Gary Hackett, boss of the two-left feet brigade from Amblecote said: "He is probably at least as good as what we have now. Competition for places is vital given our current predicament."
